Psoriasis Diagnosis & Therapy
Classic PsoriasisThe dermatologists at Puyallup Dermatology Clinic treat many patients with the mildest to the most severe forms of psoriasis. They will use the most effective and safest therapy available to control your psoriasis. Common therapies include a variety of potent topical creams and ointments, phototherapy with narrow band UVB (ultraviolet light B), systemic agents such as methotrexate, and the new biologic agents Enbrel, Humira, and Stelara.
Puyallup Dermatology provides the most modern method of phototherapy using narrow band ultraviolet wavelength B (UVB-NB). Phototherapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light that have been shown to be very effective in the treatment of psoriasis. This light occurs naturally as a component of sunlight and is called ultraviolet light. UVB-NB has been shown to be the optimal part of the UV light spectrum which slows growth of psoriasis lesions. For psoriasis, treatments are taken 3 to 5 times per week, with ultraviolet phototherapy treatment times beginning at a few seconds and increasing to several minutes over time. Once clearing is achieved, your dermatologist will determine whether your maintenance needs require regular phototherapy or whether your remission needs only periodic checkups.
The new biologic agents including Enbrel, Humira, and Stelara are used by our dermatologists to treat the most severe and resistant forms of psoriasis. These are very effective therapies and are given as injections at home or in our office.
